Depending on how one walks, the beautiful brass nail pattern plus leather in the heel can be very slippery. Rubber heel is a good solution here. IIRC, some Lobbs use full rubber heels also. Edited by kolecho - 4/3/12 at 2:45am

Few observations-
Shell construction seems somehow superior, feels more robust and heavier
Vass seems to have refined the channel stitching.These seems almost unnoticeable.Perhaps this is the beauty f handmade and a single artisan making each individual shoes.
The soles on both does not have the JR stamp, not sure if they have switched. they look and feel identical to the JR stamped soles.
This is the patented "tomcat method"
why not? i mix them in sometimes for beaters or foul weather shoes. nothing wrong, imo. this is a pretty hard rubber mix. very durable.

The order was for cigar cordovan and medium brown suede. However, this cigar colour is different from others posted here and from the cigar offered by Alden. As a colour reference below is a photo of Alden vs Vass cigar.
