F last better choice IMO it's more forgiving - consider Italian polish? Adds a little patina as the shoe gets older. rubber toe taps are good if you decide to Topy later. Dark cognac (it's dark red, and my personal fav along with 6319 - and it goes with anything) and oxblood would be great in this style too. Calf over cordovan as the creasing can detract from a formal shoe. The Vass brown calf can be a little flat IMO but you can warm it up with a little red in the polish.

Are metal toe taps better than rubber ones?

What does this mean, and why?

I've heard this before and I believe it. The rationale is that shell is harder to stretch over the last.

yea its much tougher, but definitely my choice for a pair of rugged boots, but for dress i would definitely go calf

TBH, I think that he was just using EG names as shorthand for certain design features, as opposed to trying to pass them off as EGs.

Someone mentioned I should try and take a shot of my current Vass collection. I had a bit of free time today (aka procrastination) and figured why not. There are some interesting comparison shots in here as well regarding lasts and colors which I didn't realize until after I took them. Hopefully some people will find that educational. I also have a F last black cordovan single monk strap on the way and thinking about an Alt-Wien in Antique Cognac cordovan on the F last and a Theresianer high boot in Cognac scotch grain with a plain toe on the F last. And then that's it! And this time, I mean it. :^) From top to bottom/left to right: Osloer high boot - P2 last - Dark Brown calf (the bubbling on the left vamp is because I'm stretching part of the instep) Chukka boot - U last - Antique Cognac calf Chukka boot - U last - medium brown suede Chukka boot (London model) - P2 last - Dark Brown shell cordovan with natural sole edge and goyser welt 5 eyelet London derby - U last - Cigar shell cordovan with natural sole edge Double Monk - U last - Saddle shell cordovan Melton - F last - Whiskey shell cordovan 5 eyelet London derby - F last - dark brown suede U Cap Oxford - U last - Bordeaux shell cordovan

Umm...DAMN. Nice stuff David.

The suede chukka boots and the double monks are pretty spectacular.

Well worth it to try a pair sometime.

It would have to be hard to disagree with this conclusion after seeing literally hundreds of Vass pics on SF and owning no Vass but 2 pairs of EGs.

Very sweet David - many thanks!

Love that split toed high boot and the 5 eye F last blucher.

Thanks guys! They're certainly fun shoes. Tough to pick favorites. Just depends on my mood. Good to have options! :^)

I agree that things started out a bit U last heavy. May part with the Antique Cognac chukka at some point depending on future orders.

The F last is truly sublime and one of the more well balanced lasts out there.
