Wow. Beautiful. I can never get a good shine on my Vass'.

Vass finish is very poor out of the box. I am not sure they polish their shoes to a professional finish and they leave it up to you to do that. Their finish is dull and flat. To get a high gloss finish and feed your new dry leather, here is what you do:

1. Apply Saphir Renovateur Pommadier in thin coat and let dry for two hours, then buff with brush. Let stand for 24 hours then buff again.

2. Apply Saphir Creme polish, let dry for 30 minutes, then polish again.

3. Apply Saphir High Gloss wax polish (See the Shoe Snob) for procedure. Polish again.

This should give you a nice polish that is even, deep and glossy. You could eliminate the last step or polish lightly if you do not need the high gloss finish. You shoes will love you!

Let dry for two hours? Really? The instructions on the Saphir Renovateur show to let them stay on for only 3 minutes. I cannot fathom what bad (or even good) it might do to let the renovateur sit for that long.

This is true, I don't think they are dry, just dull like you say, I just apply a little saphir renovateur and brush after 15 minutes, and then any wax polish and brush again and they are fine. I ordered those particular black shoes with the "italian polish" and they came like that so I didn't had to do anything. I really like the high shine in black shoes only, that's why I ask for the Italian polish like they call it.

I handed my order in on 19th of november, they received my payment even a few days later as my bank card was broken.
Exactly one month turnaround time for a MTO handmade shoe, excellent!

I just did a group MTO with Vass.All 15 shoes have arrived with their respective owners.They we all finished and sent out within 1 month.

There were some hiccups but Vass has been quite responsive in dealing with them

Thanks. Plan is to darken part of the boots (but will test drive them as they are first). These are for casual wear. Best with narrow pants. Could look great with white suit, but not sure where I would wear one.

The benefits of that aren't immediately apparent. Group MTO is helpful to get around restrictions like AS' 6 pairs rule and to get some good deals. But from what I see Vass has no restrictions on what you can order/configure and it's fixed pricing so you don't save. In fact, you pay the proxy a bit more for his trouble. Vass are so easy to deal with I cant see how a group MTO can make things better. But maybe there's some hidden advantage I missed.

What is Vass charging for a pair of shoes in calfskin again? I forget.

Is that all? I remember it being a trifling amount...30S$ for me. assume anyone with 450 euro to drop can afford 30-40 euro in fees.

And I am sure the money you save in fees, you pay a fair bit more than that towards higher price you are charged by the proxy...so where's the real benefit?
