The Ultimate Vass (Footwear) Thread (Pictures, reviews, sizing, etc...) - Page 635

Here's what I'm thinking

-P2 last
-Budapester
-Brown box calf
-Regular welt
-Dainite sole (is this a bad idea? Should I take advantage of the JR Redenbach double soles?)

One consideration is that I believe they can only do the Dainite as a single sole. At least that was the case about a year ago. I asked if it could go on a double sole and Vass didn't want to do that (sole would be too thick... not sure if they objected on aesthetic or manufacturing basis).

Maybe that's all changed,

That sounds like an excellent makeup and and a core shoe for a collection.

Not sure, but FWIW, mine are both double sole.

Thanks @FrankCowperwood

Part of me wants to go with the Alt Wien since I already own a shitkicker wingtip (RL Marlow)

But I really like the wingtip design and could use one in a Hungarian flavor. Dainite and calf is a plus too. Less susceptible to rain damage

I'd go Alt Wien on the P2 and Budapester wingtip on the F. Foolproof star combinations by Vass.

@gdl203

You think the Budapester works better of the F? Does it last change the aesthetic of the shoe?

Oh yes it's a very different shoe but to me looks spectacular on the F.  Alt Wien and U-cap are my favorite traditional models on the clunkier lasts (3636, Peter, etc...) but that's my own preference based on things I bought and saw over the years

Does anyone have some good shots of a Budapester derby on the F last? Having trouble finding them on Google Images. (I found an oxford, but not a derby)

Or better yet, a side-by-side of the Buda on the F vs. P2?

But I wish those were brown if they were for myself. I got it in my head from Manton that burgundy is for shell only

Never understood that and never will.  Burgundy is about my favourite shade for shoes - and I can think of absolutely no rational support for the proposition that it should be limited to shell.  Thankfully, just about every shoe manufacturer agrees with me, so I have lots of choice. :)

Thanks!

And I have some oxblood (so very dark burgundy, yes?) Vass and I've been very pleased with the color. So I'll second that burgundy is not just for shell, as much as I love it in that context.

I had a pair of burgundy AE's awhile back and didn't think they took the burgundy dye very well. I think that's what Manton was getting at.

Back to my main question, does anyone have the Budapester derby on the F last?
