I find the U-last fairly symmetric too. The K-last is symmetric but narrower and a bit beveled at the very tip.
Personally, given the choice, I would prefer K-last. Sharper, even trendier. I find that the U-last, if observed from the top (i.e., the vantage point of the wearer), appears a bit stunted.
That's why almost all the pics of the U-last shoes that get people swooning on threads like this one are taken *from the front*, at nearly the same height as the shoe itself. But this is hardly how the world and you will experience your shoes. So to me, U-last is a bit disappointing when seen in real life.
K-last fixes that. It's one mean classy cut.

yeah not into winkle picker or other excessively elongated styles either. pkiula it's a matter of taste, but i doubt you'd find many people here agreeing that the U last is too short! I've got a couple of inches of empty space in front of my toes on the U, and that's plenty. Too much causes unpleasant toe-break probs too. I'd give the K last a try I guess, but I'm def happiest with the elegance of the F and P. Not really interested in strapping a couple of pointy-assed missiles to my feet, it's about balance and proportion- the Vass lasts that work best are closest to EG's 82, 202, 888 etc. IMO

Agree. Vass is certainly not pointy. It's a classic princely cut. The new K-last just looks nicer to my eye.
F-last looks bulbous to me, but you're right - diff strokes for diff folks.
U-last is fine for feet that are long, as many in the pics attached in this thread are. But at 43 and below it looks stumpy when the front part of the leg does not require too much "flow".
K-last is the new Vass last, being made in a first-ever batch for Isetan in Tokyo.
It's funny how Isetan keeps ordering new custom lasts, yet the last time I walked in 2 out of 3 salesmen in the shoe section apparently never heard of Vass... And they had only 5-6 pairs and at a 2x markup.
Anyway those K lasts do look stunning... will have to get a pair or two...
You bet. The Isetan nearly never has sizes above 8 (UK), and when they do, it's some esoteric color and pattern that's hard to purchase. The markup is due to the Tokyo rent...so some of us who know how to use a keyboard and a browser are better off getting it off eBay or Vass own website..
For me, only for my personal taste, this is a bit stumpy. I have an old paid of Mantelassis that I keep turning to, because the "flow" of the shoe on the front part of my foot (ahead of the stem of the leg) is much sleeker despite similar measurements. Will show a comparative photo one of these days.
But that first shoe above is quite a good looking one. And the black on the right on the second pic!
