Thanks for all the responses regarding Vass' split toe derbies. I guess I'll have to place that order at another maker.

Meanwhile, I saw the following shoe from the Portuguese maker Mack James: http://www.shoegazing.se/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Tre-Outsiders-Mack-James-4.jpg

I'm considering going through Vass to replicate the upper shoe. I'm thinking K- or U-last (probably the latter) in brown scotch grain and antique cognac. Your thoughts? Thanks.
Very nice design - I may consider a pair too.

And the shoes from James also looks well finished and leather looks half decent for 275 Euros.

Indeed it is. My only issue with Mack James is the sizing. I don't want to go back and forth until I nail the size. Besides, from what I've understood, MJ's shoes are very pointy, even the classic ones. Therefor, I believe going through Vass is a safer bet. As RogerP stated, I also believe Vass would be able to nail the design. If there are others interested we could do a GMTO.

As soon as I saw that I thought "do we have the mythical GMTO, perhaps?" I'm in. 6319 cognac, U last (I think the K is a little too sharp and would spoil that interesting toe cap).

I'm with you on that. U-last will work best. Brown scotch grain and Antique cognac (=6319 cognac?). How does the forum usually arrange GMTOs? Through someone or direct contact with Reszo?

We're talking about something darker - like the top pair in Don's link, right?

I could be down for that - and agree on the choice of U last.

I've never done a Vass GMTO before - in fact, I can't recall one being done - so I can't say how it would work, or how many would be needed or what the net savings would be versus placing a single order. I guess if any group participants were in the States, we'd have to go through one of the US retailers or a reseller as Vass won't ship to individuals the States, apparently.

^^Thanks, I probably won't wait.

How long before you receive them?

I'm hoping they will be done in the beginning of April, and then shipped to me. Hopefully Notch will send me a pic before he ships :bounce2:

Anyone have the 3-eyelet London on U or F last? I am thinking of a Dark Brown Museum pair.

I procured a pair of London 3-eyelet on U-last from Notch a year ago and I love them. I am debating between getting the same pair in Museum Dark Brown or a pair of Austerity Brogue in Museum Dark Brown.

Below are a couple of pics Notch provide me before shipping them out.

ILL, Don, Roger: I'm happy to explore this with Reszo if we get the numbers, and potentially it sounds like we have four to start with!

I'm not completely sold on the mix of leathers for this one; I think it's such a pretty design that less is more. I think 6319 puts it a little between the two in the picture colour-wise: cognac is too light I think, but a mental picture of that lovely 6319 caramel-colour all over the pattern was just the first that came to me!

Don, is the two-leather combo a deal breaker? If not, let's see if we can get one more on board and make this the fastest GMTO ever, and without even much clogging up of the thread. If it is, and ILL and Rog like that too, then I'll still go with it. Otherwise, open to ideas from any and all. :)
