I would also be interested in this, and if so how did they come to be a company? Usually the internationalization begins with local demand first, but the country is not known for its abundance and Vass shoes are definitely a luxury good.

Hey! Whats the deal with Vass? If the orders are received in Hungary, and if they are made in Hungary, how then are they being worn elsewhere? How on earth do they do it?!

I think international interest in Mr. Vass is relatively recent. He opened shop in the 70s, and hasn't really expanded beyond the 2 locations. Seems like they're keeping it small and lean.

They mostly sell online, as well as to tourists visiting the store.

Most Hungarians have not even heard of Vass. And yes, unfortunately most locals cannot afford a pair of handmade shoes let alone a pair of Vass. That being said, there is a small population of Russian oligarchs in Budapest and corruption is high in the Hungarian government.

Most shoe stores in Vienna sells Hungarian hand made shoes, so yes, Hungarian hand made shoes are very popular elsewhere.

Is it dangerous having an authorized Vass retailer living just a 15 min. drive from your house?  Why, yes.  Very yes.

Bloody difficult to photograph, but absolutely beautiful shoes.

Great shoes Roger P. I have those in reddish brown.

i am confused, i thought mid brown was more like snuff suede and those seem almost brown.
