Does anyone has a pic of Deep cognac? would really appreciate that. thanks

That is the same color as all the C&J for RL shoes (Lindrick, Marlow, etc) so that will give you a good idea..plenty of those pics around

thanks @makewayhomer so C&J Dark brown shell is Vass Deep cognac ? or is it Vass Cigar brown ? I have 2 Shell boots from C&J i.e. Harlech and Skye2 Dark Brown so don't want to order the same color. Thanks a lot.

They've worked with several different ones, not sure which one that is close to being something they'll launch.

Do you have any idea what the new lasts are trying to be? meaning - a softer chisel than the U, or a more almond last, etc?

I'm pretty sure Vass cognac = C&J "brown" they use for RL.

but the real answer is that there is a lot of color variation within shell. even the C&J for RL shoes look like a different color than they used to and the color hasn't actually changed

They seem pretty normal to me. I don't think there's much difference between the instep on the F and the C&J 348 for example, and the F is certainly lower at area B on that diagram. I know the F has a reputation for a high instep, but it just doesn't seem that different to me. Certainly it's not crazy high like the Bonafe 946 fits me. I'm sure others will disagree though ...

Is the B area on f last still considered the instep or would that only be D and C? Its either the start of the instep or the midfoot

I honestly have no idea. If B is considered instep, then I would say the F last has a low instep, not high.

The C-D area is the instep (low-high). It is higher on the F last than on many comparable lasts, and it is higher than on P2 for example.

Dang, I meant to compare P2 to F but I grabbed the wrong shoe and my wife is already asleep, so here are a few comparison shots of P2 43 vs. U 43.5 if anyone is interested, both purchased from @gdl203. P2 is burg calf, and U is suede.

Bonus points to anyone other than @peppercorn78 that can name the box set I grabbed off the shelf to align the heels ...

Yeah, the depth of color on that Vass suede is pretty crazy! That shoe was my first U last, so much thanks to Greg for letting me exchange for a half size up. 43 in U definitely didn't have enough volume for me, although 43 is fine in F, and is even a touch too much in P2 so I double up on the sock liner.

Yeah, I think I'm up to 13 pairs of Vass now, plus the cognac grain shortwing austerity derby boot on the way in 6 weeks or so. I used to be such a huge C&J fan, but with the current exchange rate and ease of dealing with Mr. Kuti, I'm definitely a Vass addict for the foreseeable future. Their suede has such an amazing depth of color that pics don't do it justice. No offense intended to Greg, but NMWA's suede Vass looks so much better IRL than on their website. The suede photos almost need to be shot in high dynamic range or something; the color is really hard to accurately capture but it's really fantastic when you see it in person!
