What shell colors does vass offer? I know they have 1. Whiskey, 2. Antique Congac, 3. Color 8 and 4. Black.  I saw people posted some saddle shell as well. Are those all the shell colors Vass offers?

Thanks!!

So for F last if I am 42.5 on shell cordovan boot should I take same size on F last shoes or should I go down to 42 for F last shoes? 42.5 on boot is good comfortable fit, any help is appricated.

I don't know if they're doing whiskey right now?

Hello Gents,

Can anyone who owns both bordeaux and red cognac Vass shoes so kindly provide a pictorial comparison between the 2 shades (ideally side by side in a single picture)? I would like to see how similar (or different) they fare vis-a-vis each other. Thank you!

No whiskey available at moment. Black, Bordeaux, cigar, antic cognac, and deep cognac are currently available.

Thanks for the info, JSO!

cigar, antic cognac, and deep cognac...

I always think Vass's Antique cognac = Cigar.

Any comparison of those 3 colors?

Here are my sizing thoughts.

Sizing list:

AE 5 last - 8.5D
AE 1 last - 8.5D or 8E (both fit well, honestly)
AE 8 last - 8.5D or 8E (8E has less heel slip but is a bit wide in the midfoot)
AE 7 last - 8.5D

Carmina Rain - 7.5 UK (good fit everywhere but heel, which is a bit loose)
Carmina Inca - 7.5 UK (excellent fit, a tough tight across the vamp initially)
Carmina Simpson - 8 UK (excellent fit everywhere, but a little bit long)

Vass 3636 - 41 (good fit, a touch roomy but very comfortable)
Vass P2 - 41 (good fit, similar to 3636 in being a touch roomy overall but very comfortable)
Vass F - 41 (good fit, but too much room in the instep - balmoral laces/facings close fully)
Vass U - 41.5 (excellent fit)

Alden Barrie - 8C (shell bluchers) or 8D (suede bluchers, shell boots)
Alden Aberdeen - 8.5D (excellent fit)
Alden Plaza - 8.5D (excellent fit, but a little bit long)
Alden 379X - 8D (excellent fit - snug through waist and comfortable in toes)

Thanks Jeff! I size the same as you except that I have a high instep. I had to go up 9D on the 512 because the low instep/long vamp was rubbing the top of my feet. While I size the 5 last similar to you I can't wear 5 lasted bals since the vgap is too wide. Derbies in 5 last fit great.

How does the Vass P2 and F last instep compare to Carmina's rain? If they are as roomy, then I can probably go for 41.

Here are some last comparisons:

L-R
AE 1 last (10.5 EEE), Bonafe 946 (10 H), AE 5 last (10.5 3E), Vass P2 (44 H). Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
And another shot of AE 5, Bonafe 946, Vass P2 Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
I feel like P2 is similar to the AE 1 last, except that it hugs the sides of the foot more and cups the heel better.

Are you ordering through Mr. Kuti? I would follow his advice.

Pepper thanks for the comparison pictures. Love how the P2 looks on more casual make ups. How would you compare the length of the vamp of the P2 vs the 511 last? I'm TTS 8.5D and I find my 8.5D leeds and Stewart's vamp to be too long that the instep doesn't slope upwards soon enough causing the vamp at the base of the eyestay to rub against the top of my foot. I had to size up 9D on the 511 last to avoid this issue but it's roomy all over and I have to wear thick socks.

Thanks to your exchange, I may have confirmed my sizing as well on F and P2 (40.5) and U (41) :) I'm 8D Brannock, 7.5D Barrie, 7 Rain/Detroit and 7.5 Simpson, 8E AE 65

I'm not sure. Pretty sure cigar is like Alden's cigar - dark brown with no red tones.

Antic cognac is a deep reddish brown. Not quite burgundy, but I'd say from pictures online it's somewhat like Mahogany or Color #6 shell. Maybe color 4.

I have no clue what deep cognac is. I liked photos of antic cognac so I ordered it.

I would say the 41 F bal instep is higher than than the Rain in 7.5UK. My 7.5UK Rain bals do not lace all the way shut, but the F bals I tried in 41 did.

I tried on P2 in a blucher so I don't really notice instep height. I did not notice it being too low or too high. Probably comparable to Rain, but less confident in saying that.

The P2 last definitely has a more arched instep than the 511 last. Pics coming later today.

Red Cognac is not the same as either, IMO - it's one of the more distinctive shades within the "red" range. I'd describe it as a red / brown / orange. It is certainly different from either Vass Oxblood or Bordeaux.

That said, colour comparisons are pretty subjective, and even photos can't always tell the story because how they present on different monitors is unknown. Not to mention differences in lighting / camera / image processing etc. Then there's the fact that what's "too close" for one person will me "sufficiently different" for another.

My Red Cognac, FWIW.

@Fred G. Unn has museum shoes from Vass, Carmina, and Bonafe. Maybe he can comment on differences in leather and finishing.

The only museum I have is a plum chukka from Bonafe. As others say, I find it thinner and softer, kind of like the consistency of ladie's shoes. foo.gif
