That price is just similar to most proxies pricing except that Ascot still charges shipping on top.

It is similar to the prices charged by most proxies (well, actually, by my calculations it would be less than the price charged by some proxies).

The surprise, however, is because in their eBay store, Ascot shoes currently charges a minimum of US$850 and more commonly $900 for Vass shoes, so if they're only charging GBP395 (which is about USD$615 at present), it would be a remarkable drop in pricing.

That's correct - Ascot prices on FeeBay include VAT and the commission Ebay/Paypal charges them. Sammy tells me to ignore the ebay prices and email him
direct with MTO and RTW querie for better prices - IF YOU DONT ASK YOU DONT GET!!!

Ascot MTO prices start from £495 exc VAT and Vass prices are similar but in Euros (€550)
Not sure what Tom Jones or Kolecho charges.
As Chogall mentioned - the great thing about Ascot is they accept returns on RTW orders.....

They also accept returns/exchange on MTO orders - But 99% of the time they will get your
correct size by asking several essential measurement questions on foot dynamics and last comparison
on other makers. I told them my Lobb and EG size & last, and my MTO order was perfect first time round.
Even if you don't have experience on other British/French makers, they have a 5 minute DIY chart-system to
determine your true size.

Try asking Cleverley or EG for returns on MADE TO ORDER shoes and they will politely tell you to P-off....

Vass accept returns on MTO's themselves. Just had a pair made for me in too large a size and they immediately offered me to send them back and have a new pair made, at no extra cost other then the return freight cost.
Took a month, then I had a new pair in my hands.

I paid €420 for the shoes + €30 for the trees.
€470 total incl shipping to Sweden. Prices incl VAT since both countries are within EU.

Rezsö is a pleassure to deal with.

I tend to find if you're blindingly ordering shoes online - and the retailers are no where near 70% sure of your sizing,
the best strategy is always to oversize - due to the following:
1) Clients can insert insole to mitigate the slippage,
2) They be less tempting to return the shoes because it isn't painful
3) Tight fitting shoes - people would have a higher tendency return immediately due to the pain factor.

Probably a wise strategy from the retailer's perspective.

I do not get it with the price list. It is completely in line with what I wrote that I paid. A standard calf MTO is €420.
And, basically, all Vass are MTO's if you don not pop into one of their Budapest stores. The great thing is that there is no extra cost for it, the downside is that it takes a bit longer than buying off the shelf.

BTW - if you refer to the prices of "custom made" shoes, they are not normal MTO's. They are for shoes that you design from scratch yourself, i.e. not "only" combining lasts with existing models, leathers, soles etc that MTO normaly mean.

For a student you are (or your parents) doing extremely well.
As a student you'll probably want slickness in the K last.
For your graduation you'll probably want something more
conservative in either the F / R and Peter Last.

Their hand welted shoes starts from about €420 upwards and boots about €490.
Trees are extra....

Because it's not for U....

Kidding aside...Yes U last is good if you have average width feet.
Sleek with a more pronounced descending chisel toe from the K last.

If you know your British sizing - many guys tend to size up half in the Vass U last.
And then again, many will stay the same....

Personally for me, I go up half a size as the pain around my instep/arch
is telling me to.
