On my end of the size spectrum it works well. Did you alter the fit while you were in the store?

I decided on an ankle boot hoping that the higher closure around the ankle will work better. Here is what I got: Dark brown museum

Those are gorgeous and are on my list of must have

If it's cap toe, cordovan, exotic leathers, good luck. Those have much less give to stretching.

Thanks, Chogall.

It is these

I tried on the u last in person so I knew they would only fit as a blucher and if I could make the left shoe a touch wider

When I ordered through email I told Kuti to make left boot 2mm wider and the fit is superb. Can't distinguish left is bigger

Drdppr those chukkas look great what is the verdict?

Yeah, the thing is that Vass hand last their normal calf leather very hard, much harder than your normal RTW shoe. It's essentially a good thing, makes it keep the shape better etc. if you hand last you have better precision, with machines you don't pull it that tight since it's harder to get it correct, and easier to damage the leather.

When it comes to cordovan and also suede, you can't stretch it as much as regular calf, so Vass pull them much looser. The difference between them is bigger than in factory made shoes.

Same differences with other brands who hand last, like Antonio Meccariello for example.

A wider width means the ball width will be wider.  Due to the shape of the last, the width increase at the toe box will only be a small fraction of the width increase at the ball.
agree.

agree. they should make the lasts they use for cordovan slightly smaller to get the same fit as with calf

Is the fit difference sufficient on shell cordovan to require go down a 1/2 size?
I don't know about 1/2 sizes but definitely 1/4
