I'm essentially the person who tries to stay up on SK's online image and make sure people can find them (customer service/PR). As many on this forum have mentioned, Save Khaki used to be uncharacteristically difficult to find and there was no online presence, so I asked David if he'd like me to help out.

Right now, it's just doing the basics like Yelp, Twitter, and then I was hoping to answer any questions that people have on here. There's not enough money for a full-blown marketing push since the brand is so young and just opened it's third retail store, so we're doing the best we can.

I'm actually meeting with him tomorrow, so let me know if you guys have any questions. I'd like to get a lookbook, but I'm not sure if one exists.

Thanks.

I appreciate the suggestion, but I'm hesitant to bring them into the Houston store...I've never gotten great service from the person who usually works there.

I'm sorry to hear that as well! Was it Mia? (asian girl) Or, someone else?

i agree, every time i've been to the houston store i get pretty bad service. its a bummer because i really like save khaki but i also think the quality is pretty poor. if dave is such a man for quality why aren't they made in the usa? or some place other than china?

i ended up giving my save khaki stuff away to my room mate and he now uses them to paint in

I dropped in on the store on Saturday afternoon, actually met Mia, and took a look around. There was a lot of samples on sale downstairs, and a lot of nice basics up top. If I had to draw on any comparison, I'd say that Save Khaki is what Steven Alan should have become. The fit of the garments is nicer, and the hand of his tees and the knit cashmere hoodie, in particular, was terrific. I was not really going to drop $300 on it though, especially after taking about that much worth of cab rides getting to different places nearly on time the last three days.

The store is definitely styled like the J. Crew concept shop - well, like every other store (see Smith&Butler, Stuart&Wright, Billy Reid), etc... that is trying to look a Deadwood era hardware store with convenient roughhewn shelves and barrels full of washed tees and cashmere hoodies.

I don't call anything in this thread spam. The OP was not the representative of Save Khaki, and the rep isn't trying to sell things to anyone, AFAIK. If he posted Save Khaki PSAs, new product, etc..., then he'd probably want to talk to me about an affiliate thread, but we certainly invite representatives of brands to give information on a brand when posters ask about it. It's a fine line. If in doubt, PM me and ask.

Really? Are we still having this conversation? The better Chinese factories can do stuff, especially knits, that very few, if any, American factories have the capability to do.

At least he'll look stylish when he paints. I believe some brands even try to mock the painter look by splattering paint on their pants at the factory, so tell him to try and wear them out from time to time if he'd like.

As for the made in the U.S.A. idea, Save Khaki does a United line (S.K.U.) that is 1oo% made in America, but at different factories for each product (t-shirts in LA, some pants in NYC, duffle coats in Massachusetts, etc.):

(sorry if it's a little big, I tried to resize but it doesn't seem to work)

Actually, the LES store will be moving to mostly SKU merchandise in the coming months.

that's awesome, i had no idea about that. and as for the "only china can do it better etc" i'm all for china as long as they're getting a fair pay and being taken care of. i'm not just about made in usa because of quality alone. when things are made here jobs are created and people get paid to do them that's all. ahem i'll step down from my soap box now.

Understandable, especially in these crazy times. There are obvious advantages, especially the recourse with the factories. But, it costs more, and someteims people just aren't willing to pay $200 instead of $100 for a pair of pants -- you know how it is.

David's also working on another made in America line with a historic southern factory, but I'm not sure if he wants the secret let out quite yet.

I just saw some Save Khaki chinos at the Barney's outlet at Cabazon. The fabric was soft and had a nice dark khaki color, the cut fit me perfectly and the price was right at $59 (discounted price). The downside is that they appeared to be riddled with construction problems. the center seat seam was wonky and rippled and wouldn't lay flat, there were loose threads everywhere, and stray stitches visible around the fly and rear pockets. This was a made in China version. Really they fit me so perfectly that I almost bought them anyway, but I was afraid they wouldn't hold up so I passed. I especially appreciated the higher rise with a slimmish cut - it's not the most common combination, though the Epaulet Walt cut is one notable example. I hope that one pair is an outlier. I'll visit the store in NYC next time I visit there.
