Samuelsohn Gable Model

I've been away for a bit, but I don't see where this has been discussed . . .

I've been buying Samuelsohn Talbots because they're cheap, well made, and fit me like a glove. The Talbot is a 2 button double vent notch. Well, I just tried the Samuelsohn "Gable", and was so impressed with it that I picked up one. The Gable is cut a bit more snug than most Samuelsohns (I'm usually a 42L, but went up to a 44L in the Gable), is a 2 button SB, double vent, peak, with a ticket pocket. Very little shoulder padding, a fair amount of waist suppression, and the peak lapels are not overwhelming. Trousers are pleat free but darted.

Just curious if anyone else has tried this one out.

Have not but sounds sweet. On a related note can anyone fill me in on Samuelsohn MTM - I understand that they have two options, MTO and MTM. How good is the MTM (provided the guy measuring is good)? Lots of minor tweaks like shoulder drop and sleeve rotation? Cost structure?

I recently bought what sounds like that exact suit on E-Bay. It was MTM though. It hasn't arrived yet. It was cheap and since I love peaked lapel suits and know Samuelsohn makes a good suit, I went for it. I hope it fits, although I know the waist has to be let out for me.

I don't have the suit yet, but I'd say that Alton MTM looks very similar to the Gable. Perhaps the Gable is a slimmer cut with slightly more narrow lapels?

Re: Sammy MTM versus MTO . . . not sure about the terminology, but I know that they have both a true MTM program as well as one where you do your own cosmetic modifications to an off the rack suit (and I think you can do separates as well). In other words, a stock size 42L Talbot, but you add a ticket pocket, etc.

The Alton has a much stronger shoulder and is huge compared to the Gable. The Gable is a brand new model and was just introduced last season. I got one too in 2B notch and went up to 39R from my usual 38R. Very soft shoulder with no roping at all and very light padding, high armholes and a shorter jacket with excellent Samuelsohn construction - what's not to like?

Aha, yes this one does have a somewhat strong shoulder. I missed that part. I figured for $68, I couldn't go wrong though. I think it may be too snug for me as it is really more of a 40 in measurements than a 42. We shall see.

I got in yesterday and I am actually quite impressed with it. Aside from the waist on the pants, which I am taking in today to be let out, it is a very good fit. I would not say it is a huge cut by any stretch of the imagination. It doesn't have massive waist suppression, but it is relatively slim. I really like it and can't wait to get the pants done and wear it out.

Which of the 5 North American physiques do you guys have? I am trying to, in my minds eye, outfit the cast of Martin in 1995 in the most appropriate of the 5 North American silhouettes.

The "cosmetic madifications" program you are talking about is what I reffered to as MTO - "Made To Order." I am curious about more details of the true MTM program - costs (say, for a typical super 110), options, extent of modification possible, etc...

Yes. Martin was a sitcom that was on from the fall of 1992 to the spring of 1997.

Hank is underrated and wrote some great tunes.

It's been a while since I ordered Samuelsohn MTM, but I think at the time it was retail plus about 10%.

Can anyone tell me what the price range is for MTM Samuelsohn suits in the US. I'm up in Canada and I just want to compare prices before I try one out...

Bump. Can anyone comment on the Gable? Seems to be a slimmer model. Is it on par with Brooks Brothers Golden Fleece or Fitzgerald?

I tried on a 39R at a store recently, since they didn't have a 38R.

There's also a MTM option, which I assume can make the suit even slimmer.
