oh shit Zach - so sorry I hit edit instead of quote (mods only button) when I corrected your spelling of St Kilda and accidentally deleted the whole rest of the post. Sorry sorry!!!!! It said something about AFL and Queen Vic Market

no problem

here's the deal - I think that I will spend the morning at vic market, then have lunch, then see if I can catch some AFL, then go out to st. kilda to see penguins.

if anybody wants to join, let me know.

ok, so here I am in Melbourne -

arrived yesterday at about 8:30, got to the hotel by 9:30 or 10. went to Vic market, then to the Melbourne museum (sorry, have to say I was underwelmed. there is a traveling exhibition on Pompie that wasn't all that impressive, and the aborigional art exhibit wasn't very good, wasn't labeled that well and was very PC); then had lunch in chinatown - pretty good, espectially a good value for what I paid. then I walked to the national gallary, via the sunday handicraft market next to the national gallary which was pretty cool. at the national gallary there was a retrospective exhibit on S Dali that was really world class. the rest of the permanent exhibit was pretty good - not stellar but pretty good for a city of this size. then I went out to St. Kilda - had some very good gelato on the way. hung out for about an hour and saw 3 pengions from very close - a meter of less, and about 10 penguins from a distance (may have been the same penguins, hard to tell). which was pretty cool. rode the tram back to my hotel.

all in all, a good day.

yeah, in the end I decided to skip the football, mostly because I wanted to try and get as much done as possible. but I like the city - actually today I went to a meeting in north Melbourne and saw some great neighborhoods.

I'm staying in the new hilton in south harbor. ok, but they are having some pains as it just opened. messed up cleaning my room, etc. but it it very convenient, easy to the trams, easy to walk around town.

hmm, can't help you with that part of town. When I lived there last there was, quite literally, nothing there.

thanks - yeah its not the type of neighborhood that you walk around and do stuff, although it isn't that far from other parts of town that you can walk around in. and, aside from sunday, I'll be busy while I am here.

having dinner here tommorow (and don't even have to pay for it)
