New American-made Bass Weejuns, anybody?

According to A Continous Lean, Bass will be releasing a new series of Weejuns made in Maine next year, designed by J. Press creative director Mark McNairy. The prices will range between $300 and $3000 (some will be made in exotic skins). Very cool.

I like the inside-out Shell Cordovan ones.... those are cool (the loafers to the right of the blue suede)

But these shoes are expensive!

I guess the Horween is stamped on the outside of the shoe, rather than the inside.

I love the collection but would never buy, not for those prices. You can get something a whole lot better quality with those prices

You can already buy similar shoes from Ralph Lauren, they just won't have Bass stamped on the insole.

The sumner is one of them, among others. All of those made in USA models are made in Maine. GVH, ebay, and Gilt will have these for good prices as well. Here are a few I've purchased recently:

Those price points are fucking obnoxious.

They look cool enough, but I don't see the advantage to paying so much for something that looks essentially the same as the Bass Gilman that I recently got for $65 on Piperlime. Foo - are we missing something?

I do not believe the Gilman is made in the USA.

What's your beef, small timer?

The stuff Polo has made up in the same factory is similar in price. Examples:

Alden's "Cape Cod" line, also made in Maine, is $270-ish with leather soles.

A Bass Weejun at a Weston 180 price? No thank you. A new place of manufacture does not indicate better construction. See http://nymag.com/guides/everything/shoes/27345/ And those wrong-side up shell ones with the Horween stamp? I'd wear flip flops first!
