Regarding the signed copies of the book I have an idea (or rather Harper Collins had).
What they did with 'Freakonomics' is that due to the demand for signed copies (I don't think those on the fora have such an impact) they came up with something else:
stickers, maybe 10x10 cm with a nice logo of the book and the signature of the authors. Plus, they ate the postage and even sent one for me to Germany (I don't see sending the book to the US and back for that only if I can have it without postage in Germany). I would sincerley hope that to be an option.
