San Francisco - Hotel Suggestions - Page 3

Highly recommend the Fairmont. If you can book reasonably in advance, they're offering some great deals right now. Beautiful lobby, good-sized guestrooms, and (especially if you're in the tower) some of the best views in the city. Sure you have to walk down (and up) the hill to get anywhere from the hotel, but IMO this is totally overblown as an issue.

The Campton Place was taken over by Taj Hotels (luxury brand from India) a few years ago and they did a big reno. It's better now, but for the money you can get a much newer, larger guestroom with a good view many other places nearby.

how were the experiences at the Hilton and the Grand Hyatt? Those are the two I'm looking at....is the Grand Hyatt worth an extra $50?

Mark Hopkins, Fairmont, Huntington, Ritz Carlton are all excellent, interchangeably good. I would add Mandarin Oriental as a truly great business hotel with incredible views. Not as traditional as the others mentioned, but just as good if not better.

+1 on the Mandarin. Spectacular views of the bay. One morning, before moving to the Bay Area, I stayed there and woke up to a view of the city completely fogged in except for the tops of the tallest buildings and a spectacular sunrise. Silks restaurant is pretty good, too

Going to be in San Francisco in October and was hoping for some hotel guidance. Looking to keep the budget to sub $300, would prefer a hotel that is closer to the Ferry Building / Embarcadero area. We tend to like more modern hotels, stayed at the Hotel Vitale once and enjoyed it but wouldnt mind trying something different.
