Ok, so I went to a flea market last week which, like many, had a high percentage of Mexican vendors and customers. There were probably 4 or 5 separate booths selling dresses and formal gowns (and a few also rented tuxedos). A few booths had Spanish-only signs, a few had English subtitles. Almost all the gowns that were on display were ball-gown style; tight up top with a large hoop bottom half. Lots of white gowns, like mini-wedding dresses, but many other colors too.
The most prominently displayed ones were all very small, but, that might be simply because it's easier to display a 3ft tall ball gown than one for a woman who's 5'5".
Are they for Hispanic debutante parties or some Catholic religious rite?
