They aren't new.

As for clean - I can't imagine the process that would make a construction dumpster clean enough for me to swim in it (even with plastic). Sandblast the whole thing down to bare metal and recoat with whatever industrial shit they use, I guess.

If it were a construction dumpster, it would have mostly had broken bricks, wire, dirt, sheetrock, etc in it. The type of stuff that often ends up in dumptrucks. Stuff that would wash out pretty easily. If they were dumpsters from construction sites, they aren't much different than a dump truck bed, which aren't really icky at all.

I work in construction. Dumpsters get taken all over the place - and demo turns up some pretty unpleasant things.

The fact is that beside the bullshit scene associated with that article - I would love to have a buddy who had a vacant lot in queens with a dumpster pool. Living in NYC is great, but you do really appreciate those little things like sitting on a deck next to a pool drinking a beer.
