I bet these people are also freegans.

I am not cool enough for that.

I'm proud to be part of a city with so much amazing creativity.

I'm embarrassed as hell to be part of a city where people would swim in a dumpster.

... or at least claim to be (if that happens to be cool at the moment). BTW, you should watch the video on the NY Times site.

Dude1: Wow, we're so ironic.
Chick1: Wow, you still care about irony?
Dude1: Only to be ironic.
Chick1: Wow, you're so deep.

Well, it's not like they are just waiting for the trash truck to empty it then breaking out the garden hose.

Kudos for finding a new way to get chicks into bikinis in the NYC Summer!

They were cleaned and covered. I think it's a nice move.

No, they're clearly buppies. With more than a few trustafarians mixed in, I suspect.

So three people are bathing in a fucking dumpster and it's a movement?

Dude, have you seen these kids? It's fucking amazing that they're bathing at all. I welcome any attempt at making these people bath; it's more tolerable on the subway ride home.

Haha. As I read the article I was thinking "man, I saw a bunch of redneck frat guys at The University of Georgia doing this in the bed of their pickup truck last weekend" then I read this:

Quote:
The concept itself is borrowed. Mr. Belt, Mr. Weyland and Alix Feinkind, Macro-Sea’s creative director, heard about it in April, when they were scouting a project in Georgia. Curtis Crowe, a musician in the Athens band Pylon, had made one.

Athens rules.

It's more the people and the attitude that's the problem than the swimming in dumpsters. Though, the swimming in dumpsters is still pretty fucking retarded if you ask me.

What's the next scene that the 'chattering cool-hunters' will be flocking to? Sewer swimming? I mean it's not that much of a stretch in this city after reading this article. I can see it now. Some 'innovator' will start a sewer pool scene and when interviewed by the NY Times will say:

"Sewers in NYC are ubiquitous, and until now they've just been sitting there, under-utilized. How many times have you stepped on a manhole cover and thought to yourself, 'I wonder what's down there'? Well now a lucky handful of New Yorkers are discovering this subterranean shangri-la for themselves. It's really magical."

I like how in the video the one 'dumpster diver' cited Switzerland as being on the vanguard of innovative urban leisure possibilities. He mentioned how they're swimming in a canal. A canal is A LOT different than a dumpster. I wonder why they didn't swim in the Gowanus canal?
