Ever thought about writing a novel? - Page 3

Can I write like Tom Wolfe? I took a quiz on Facebook and it said he's the author I'm most like.

Or will I need bespoke shirts first?

Can I be the Jantzen-quality Wolfe?

I love how everyone thinks they can write a novel, like it's some universal skill we all have, but just haven't taken advantage of. How often do you hear people say, "I'd really like to write a symphony, but I'm just too busy"?

Philip Roth already did that (http://www.amazon.com/Great-American...dp/0679749063). I remember it being just terrible.

You should read HOW I BECAME A FAMOUS NOVELIST by Steve Hely. It's about a guy who sets out to write a bestselling novel to show up his ex-girlfriend at her wedding. He calls it "The Tornado Ashes Club."

That is kind of the problem with anything in the information/technology age. . . take a look at photography. Everyone thinks they can take a great photo (patently untrue, but still) and so lots of those microstock websites popped up and now a lot of good professional photographers are going hungry or picking up other jobs since their high quality stuff doesn't sell anymore.

People want cheaper prices and accept lower quality for it.

As the whole self publishing thing gets bigger and bigger via the internet, expect to see lots of lesser quality novels out there.

Have you read "The Long Tail"? Great book that goes into this stuff.
