Can someone explain Digg to me?

I signed up for it and it seems cool, but I am not sure I understand all of its features. I am too lazy to do research, so I am wondering if any Digg-lovers can just explain it to me.

1. Go to Digg.com. 2A. Waste time looking at funny pics and slanted blog posts. 2B. Upvote articles if you want them to stay on the front page longer, unnecessarily. 3. Get fired from work for wasting time.

I thought Digg is what you do with a Shovell. :roma:

I miss the early digg where it was only technology related links. It's pretty unreadable now.

reddit is where its at. The early digg was awesome, till it sold out to the mainstream. Now you can't get anything on the front page without power user approval. I've submitted lots of things that have front paged the front page and subreddits, and I just submit something every few months.

Reddit is pretty much as bad IMO.

The subreddits are still pretty prestine. Flee to the subreddits!

No, I think the technical term is news aggregator. Delicious is more like a online social bookmarking tool. Hardly any news there these days though.

I used to like Digg a lot back in the day. Tech news, comments by rational people. I even got on the front page once, I think. Since it went mainstream, I hardly visit anymore. The comments are juvenile with people trying to spread memes, and the top stories are repetitive or controlled by certain users. I visit once in awhile to search for flickers of intelligence in the comments on current topics.

I've been using it for a week and I really like it.

For those a bit more tech orientated, sub-reddits are good but also http://news.ycombinator.com

Isn't Digg all about who can come up with the funniest joke regarding the particular article?

No it's about who can copy the funniest comment that was submitted on Reddit, yesterday, when the story was popular over there.

As for Digg, it can be good depending on what you want to use it for. Hate all the articles about politics and Apple? I'm pretty sure you can filter those out to keep the news that you want to read about.
