If you haven't tried the Buller Muscat you should definitely pick up a bottle and let me know what you think. It's really pretty nice for $14 or so for a .375. I'm a philistine when it comes to wines, but it was recommended to me several years ago and I really like it.

personally, no. I can find it at any local store, you should be able to do the same w/o the minimum purchase requirements.

The wine is not bad, but nothing super special. Plus, as noted, it is everywhere.

and, this is totally personal again, I'd sooner get 10 completely different and assorted bottles (NZ, Chile, Italy Piedmont, Italy Tuscany, France Bordeaux, France Loire, etc) than 2-3 bottles of Cakebread. I'd take detailed tasting notes too.

Also, K, if you're looking for wine ideas, think about the Gary V. monthly wine club. $50, shipping included, you often get $60-70 worth of wine and can taste along and get educated with the club videos. Also, you can buy month by month rather than putting cash down all at once.

Agreed, it's easy to find. Will be meeting Dennis Cakebread at a vinter's dinner in the next few months.

Good advice on the bottles. And thanks for the Gary V suggestion! I think I'll look into that. I was trying to budget somewhere between 75 and 100 a month for wine.... and since I've been lamenting the lack of diversity in wines around here, that seems like a damn good fix.

I don't think Chef Doug would like that!

Seriously know, that unless you can sit your arse home all day, waiting for FedEx, you will get hosed. Unlike UPS, they will not leave your wine at the door. The Wine Library/Cindy Wines uses FedEx exclusively.

see the second option. You can watch the video for December as well:
http://winelibrary.com/Wiz_club.asp

also, you might wish to focus more on wine to drink than wine to hold. It's far cheaper, for one, and actually tasting and analyzing is by far the best way to learn and understand wine.

you'll have to sign for it, as for all alcohol deliveries. Or, alternatively, somebody else will have to sign for it.

The only problem with this is the summer. Many parts of the country are too hot to ship to year round.

Thanks Pio! Yeah I love my new decanter now all I need is some new stemware

IIRC there were just a few "white diamonds" but not as much as I found on the 2002 Wooded Island Cabs from a few months ago. I even found a little on the 2003 DB 24 which I cracked open last night.

Do you suppose the lack of "white diamonds" has anything to do with Kirchmayr recorking their "Solist" label when needed?

That could be. I wonder. Maybe the topping off dilutes it so not as much precipitationg? Not sure, just guessing.

Thanks for the help guiz.

Gome--- a few days ago, you had mentioned 2004 Brunello di Montalcino's drinking really well right now. I looked for them that day, and all I could find were wines hovering between $45 and 70. Do those prices sound reasonable?
