You should have some Burgundy tonight. Maybe a 1999?

Btw, I wanted to say what a great point this thread is at. We have a host of people drinking great wines here now. It's really great.

1999 Chasse Spleen - probably nearing the end of its life, red brick colour on the edges, muted blackcurrant along with cedar/cigar box. Nice, not great.

Had a pristine bottle of 1971 Haut Brion last night purchased a few years ago from a cellar where it was bought on release. Had that alluring complexity of aged Haut Brion with smoke, earth and plummy fruit in a medium bodied, silky package. Not a powerhouse, but oh so elegant. The best part is there are still more bottles of this in the cellar. :^)

A few years ago at a dinner with Allen Meadows (Burghound), a bottle of 1988 Haut Brion appeared and he mentioned how this Chateau is a Burgundy lover's style of Bordeaux. I couldn't agree more. Give me a wine like this any day of the week which is perfect in its own right over most any 100 pointer.

For me last night, 2009 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet. Very light nose with a whiff of apple, palate had apple and mineral. Good acid.

Tasty! I love Paul Pernot. In the handful of my favorite White Burgundy producers.
