You really don't like bitter, do you? Lamb shoulder is my favorite cut of lamb, but I do like all the pieces.

Oh, I had a Sesti Monteleccio last night. It was actually, to my surprise, awesome. I had it with lamb shoulder and chard.

nice! I've had an enjoyed their Brunello, but not this particular wine. I think the Monteleccio is like $18, no?

Yeah around $20. It is really a good bargain, and frankly, one of the better wines, overall, that I've had lately. I was shocked and delighted.

added to my list of things to seek out. I don't think their production is particularly big. If you like whites, give a Vermentino a try sometime (either from Sardinia or Bolgheri in Tuscany). Some recommendations are in this article.

Few things bring as much pleasure as a really good, inexpensive bottle of wine.

Had this tonight. It was really quite nice with lots of spicy tobacco notes and rich dark fruit flavors, good tannic structure. 2008 Decoy by Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Had a nice Chalk Hill 2008 chard w/ my pop's homemade crawfish etoufee and venison/pork shoulder sausage. The 2007 Pax Cuvee, which was a gift from his buddy, was had afterwards (still sipping on the take home small mason jar), and was a pleasant surprise. Should have been opened hours earlier, but oh well. Bet it'd be good with 5 more years on it as well. Was still enjoyable, poured through a venturi wine aerator. Kinda lit right now, so I'll stop.

I'm extremely sensitive to it. The rack is my least favorite part of the lamb regardless though.

So had the wine on the right last night.

Very disappointed for $60.

There was nothing wrong with it but no way worth the money. All I got from the nose was craisins (those dried cranberry things). No funk/barnyard, no spice (baking or savory), no other fruit....just dried cranberries. Palate gave me a suitable acid and tannins but no other flavour than the craisins. Absolutely no complexity in this wine.

I had some Champagne last night, always a pleasure. One bottle was a split of Ruinart Blanc de Blanc, the other was a MV Larmandier Brut 1er Cru Vertus. Both were awesome, slight preference went to the Larmandier as I thought it had a stronger finish.

and because it ran circles around the Delamotte MV two weeks ago, I placed an order for more Vilmart Grand Cellier d`Or 2004. Awesome stuff, highly recommended.

Agreed and I know better. I'm the guy that is always pointing out how easily it is to get ripped off with Burg. For all the bitching about Cali wine, I know $40 is going to buy me a nice bottle of Pinot. There were several comments here when I bought that bottle that indicated people figured it would be a great bottle. It was just unobtrusive and no where near good, let alone great.

That's a real shame, Pio, and I'm the one who suggested it. Certainly both rugiens and taillespieds are great vineyards but it goes to show how in burgundy how important the producer is. I've stuck mostly with Hubert de Montille and his wines from Volnay and Pommard are always very good but unfortunately expensive. 2002 is exactly in the sweet spot too for drinking now - any sense that it was maybe over the hill?
