Indeed. And it was cheap. I'm really trying to work the value plays these days. Tonight I plan an $8 Beaujolais.

I had dinner with a friend Saturday night and we got a a cheap Beau that was split between us. It was great. I probably wouldn't have liked it if I was at home eating dinner though. Ambiance and company make a big difference.

How much wine do you guys usually drink with dinner? My girlfriend and I kill a bottle easily.

We are a bottle a night. Weekdays she only ever has two glasses of the bottle. I sometimes have a glass or three more even on weeknights. I'm cutting back though and plan to hang tough at only sharing the one bottle.

When she was away for six weeks, I was knocking down a bottle a night by myself. Now it all seems to go so fast. :tear:

Nah, I'll save the calories. Plus, she gives me grief if I pop open another one.

A half bottle or a little less over dinner is about as much as is good for me, though I only weigh about a buck forty-five, so that hampers me.

Also, last night was a 2008 Davis Family Russian River Valley Pinot. This is the first RRV pinot that I've tasted and really got a clear idea of that allspice/chinese five spice and cherry cola flavor people always note. Its not too boozy, balanced, and made well enough, but I'm not the biggest fan. Very primary and fruity with a fair amount of oak even at 4 years old. I think a bottle of wine like this is nice from time to time, but this is exactly the kind of Pinot Noir I wish there was less of. Then again the fact that it was 98 outside yesterday may have influenced my perception of this wine, but I wanted it to go with the lamb.

My wife has a glass. I have the other 3 and change. smile.gif

Drank this on Friday night. Was really shocked at the quality for the value. 2007 Rhone is drinking great right now and for around $32 this was a steal. I was pretty skeptical to Chateauneuf that cheap.
