Union Square Wines has a 6th year anniversary sale of 30% off case prices. I think I am going to pull the trigger on some stuff.

that's not surprising that you felt that way. blaufränkisch is not to everyone's taste...

according to the official wine list it was blaufränkisch. however, everyone was asked to bring a bottle or buy one in the shop rounding the selection.

after all, it sounds like they enjoyed it and i hope we'll read more about it soon...

Not sure, I am probably going to swing by today to look around more. I know they have the 2001 Chateau Simard, which I really love. I drank a few bottles last year that were good, but for some reason, either more age, or maybe my taste I am really enjoying it. Might cop a case.

Had another great Pinot Noir from NZ. Marlborough again. I think the producer was called, "Momo"?

Young and a little bubbly, but very crisp and fruity. Long aftertaste, citrus-fruity nose. I liked it a lot.

Lacks a little body, but it had a very prominent fruit note, I think peach or something. Better than expected, but nothing outrageously good for the money.

This was very good. Crisp acidity, strong taste, long aftertaste. Yum. Thanks for the rec, Cary G.

We also had a bottle of La Bastide's Plénitude '07. Ugh. The worst red wine I've drank in a while, and it wasn't even uber cheap at 8€. Very disappointing. Completely unbalanced, far too sour. Didn't finish.

Got an 1987 Quintarelli Valpolicella today from a friend. Hoping it still has some legs left but I've heard these wines can handle some age.

I had a 2009 Chateau de Franc last night. Supposedly the same family as Angelus. It was 90% Merlot and 10% Cab Sauvingnon. If nobody told me I would have thought it was all Cab Sauvingnon. In addition it was very, very dark and 15.5% alcohol. I let it decant for a few hours hoping some of the alcohol would evaporate, but alas it was spirit-like. Parker rated it 88 points.

Hmmmm.... Valpoicella Amarone, yes.... but the regular stuff? '87 is ancient. Interested to hear about the results.
