And while I do agree that Champagne is very versatile with food, I'd sooner pair a Gewurztraminer with spicy food.

+1. I also like a good, crisp Riesling with spicy food.

I know you're all dying to know, so I'll tell you that the paella went very well last night. Picked up 2 Albarinos and 2 bottles of rose. Forget the names, will find the bottles later and post them if I remember. The rose linked here was the one I bought. It was damned good.

Tonight, 06 Chehalem 3 Sisters Vineyard.

Gome, don't waste the $ on that. Not worth it for free.

Had a wierd Italian white that tasted like liquid honeydew melon. Really no other flavor. Needed acid. Not great.

technically you are correct, varietal is used for a single grape, but it's what I continue to say without thought. I enjoy not thinking.

Chatting with Mrs. Piob last night. Our 13th over Labour Day weekend. One night that weekend we plan to have a quite dinner at home and crack our 01 magnum of Merry Edwards. Already looking forward to that, as an 01 should be old enough even for Manton!

Oh, even in my frail old age, I can kill a magnum solo. If I was still 51# heavier, I could kill two. Still boggles me how much capacity I've lost since just last Labour Day.
