FWIW, beyond all the wine BS, I am getting sick of California and just want to be home. Maybe not sick of California, but homesick for sure. You should just go ahead and move back out West. You can always take classes at Greystone, ya know.

Yeah, maybe I am not sick of NY but I am homesick. I used to really yearn to be here, thought I could not live anywhere else. Now I am on my third "tour", with no end in sight. Certainly there are worse places to be--to say the least--and it is a fine place to live. But I still want to go home.

Speaking of you and Mantonicles meetup, I'm going to be able to get a few bottles of Dagueneau's Pouilly Fume. They can't give up any Pur Sang or Silex (understandable), but are willing to sell me 3-4 of the Pouilly Fume. I think I'm going to buy as many as they're willing to part with.

Tonight: 2005 Les Fiefs De Lagrange
2nd wine of Lagrange, and a decent value for this great St. Julien terroir and property that has undergone one of the best transformations in Bordeaux this side of Pontet-Canet.

It's easy to get a more intimate knowledge of specific wineries and to meet the winemakers themselves when you go visit. Not to mention prices are often pretty low, or at least lower than in other parts of the country.
On the other hand, if I want to have a "survey" kind of course in wine that isn't grown in Sonoma, I'm kind of screwed. This in itself is amazing. I wish I could really spend a lot of time just tasting and taking in wine country. This week I have an interview and if all goes well and I get a job I will try to transfer to Cali. after a year or two.

Fronsac is one of the lesser communes, and one that only recently started to improve its wines. 1994 was a weak year with early maturing wines. Hence not surprising that a village bottle from a so-so area could not age well for 16 years.

The Pauillac was from a single chateau but I do not remember which. Will note that next time. Never really paid attention to the wines that I have been drinking, but definitely trying to now.

The Fronsac, the guy at the store told me to try if I wanted to take a "risk". I did and I guess it didn't turn out too well

One of our favourite DDs. $24.00 CAD. Stone, licorice, dark, but delicate fruit. A lovely Rhone wine for your consideration. Interestingly, I've drunk it after a two hour decant and it was amazing; really opened up (an interesting floral layer emerged). Once, after another long decant, some of the power seemed to have evaporated. So, we usually drink this wine now right after opening. YMMV. We enjoyed it with some plain jane cheese. Cheers, a
