^^ You could argue that all day long, but the fact remains that Gang of Four is brilliant shit. It's just that the GO4 bandwagon was mobbed 10 years ago, this topic would be super relevent circa 1999.

Such as? Am I right to assume you're going to say something fairly predictable like Joy Division, Echo and the Bunnymen and the Talking Heads?

I would assume James Chance, ESG, The Fall, etc.

Ah yes I forgot the Fall off my list of "the" post-punk bands that people just 'may' have heard of. What impresses me about them is their frenetic release rate and the quality consistency between albums.

This Heat and Public Image Ltd (even Metal Box alone but nothing after Keith Levene, obviously), but who cares -- Gang of Four were great.

The Fall is quite epic.

Their Brix Smith period was the best, in my opinion, with such delectable albums as This Nation's Saving Grace, Bend Sinister, I Am Kurious Oranj although the '80s was a good period for the band such as Hex Enduction Hour.

YES! A few songs by The Cribs have a similar style (Men's Needs, Our Bovine Public, Girls Like Mystery). Not to mention Fugazi, The Jam, and this little gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOaPsLgV8xE

Entertainment! is one of those great albums that just works the whole way through.

You may as well say half of Britain's bands have a similar style to Gang of Four.

She was also quite the QT- but wasn't that period 'strictly' 80's?
