My brother said he downloads albums for $0.50 from the Russians. Anyone know of the site?

That sounds smart, you download the music, they download your credit card information.

I heard about a cheap Russian MP3 site a few years back. Its legal in Russia, but they don't tend to enforce copyright law very strongly there, so I doubt the artists / record label are seeing any money.

Yeah there was a whole long drama story. It started with allofmp3.com which was a legit site and sold songs for like 5-10 cents. Nice library, they had like EVERYTHING. You could prepay with a credit card through a legit company and I've never heard of anyone scammed by them. Thousands and thousands of people used them Anyway, the recording industry caught up and forced the credit card companies to stop doing business with anyone who is a proxy of allofmp3. There were a few more sites open by the owners of allofmp3, I think at least one is still operational, but the problem is that you cannot pay with paypal or your credit/debit card anymore. If they are back with a legit payment option, it's definitely a real thing. Edit: I just checked, looks like the new name is mp3sparks.com and they are operating, but the prices are a bit higher and they are currently using some shady credit card processor that has some negative comments but doesn't seem all that bad. What's the site that your bro uses?

Yeah, pretty much what flam said. They claimed that the artists were getting paid, but the RIAA claims otherwise. They are mostly eastern european/russian based so they really dont have to answer to the RIAA. If you dont care about the artists getting paid, why not torrent/newsgroup the music for free?

the old allofmp3 had big links to the mob as far as I recall...

mp3search.ru many of the albums are under $1.

Well if they are THAT cheap you clearly forfeit any moral standings on the subject. Plenty of russian sites let u dl music for free.

ya I was looking into this as well, basically you can't buy just one album, you have to buy a bunch of credit and then download against it. It is unlikely I would ever use up even the $25 minimum. That aside, I just don't trust them with my card details, and only want one album anyhow (which is up there for like two bucks). It's still tempting, cos I cannot find it on any filesharing networks (no torrents, cant even find it one track at a time on Limewire), but I'm going to err on the side of distrust. Unfortunately Amazon's MP3 store won't sell outside the US either, iTunes won't sell to Vietnam, so I am pretty much screwed. Looking for Texas Beat by the Long Tall Texans...so if you do go ahead and buy some Russia-credit, let me know and I'll Paypal it back to you. Of course if anyone just so happens to have the album (or knows some site full of Psychobilly torrents that I have not heard of), feel free to send it to me!

Use a US based VPN service like MonkeyVPN or HotspotVPN. It will route traffic to the US so Amazon thinks you are in the US. Once you've completed the transaction, they don't really care where you download it from. That's how I do-os it in the Asia.

A friend of mine downloads music from http://www.goldenmp3.ru/. Pretty sure he buys Visa gift cards and pays with them.
