It would be more accurate to ask how I found out about bands from the early 60's and the truth is that I barely knew any except for the super popular acts or a few whose names kept coming up as an influence of the bands that I listened to at the time. Keep in mind that I was a musician and dj at the time so fairly in touch with contemporary music n the mid to late 80's.

I am just impressed that Magician is so well-versed in that era..mentioning obscure acts like This Heat and so many of you young'uns seem to know the Fall and Gang of Four etc. In truth, they weren't all that popular when they were originally around. I was a Fall fan way back when and I am sure that they were not that well known outside the UK even among the cool hipsters of the time.

I just find it interesting how the landscape has changed.

But the Cure is a fair comparison and if you check the history of the lead singer you'll trace back to SB.

Once you get into one band it snowballs from there from all the comparisons made, shared spots on the rosters of record labels, musical acnowledgements, collabs, and so on.

I think I discovered This Mortal Coil, Bardo Pond (one of the best bands, period), Bablicon, Colin Newman, and Q Lazarus around the same time.

edit: actually, that's not entirely true: q lazarus, newman, and TMC were conjoined, bablicon was independent of the others, and Bardo Pond was in some remote way connected to Sonic Youth.

Did you pick up on Newman and Q Lazarus from Silence of the Lambs?

good band, Spellbound is my fave song, and Cities in Dust. great songs here and there, but also a lot of filler tracks on each record that werent too memorable

used to have a big crush on her in 80s, she looked like a tarantula in stockings!! There used to be a store in LA called Soap Plant that sold artsy books etc and it seemed every girl working there in the 80s looked like an incarnation of Siouxsie, which was hot. Had a couple visit us from TX over the weekend who have 2 dogs, Siouxsie and Banshee

I picked up Q Lazarus, This Mortal Coil, and Colin Newman all from Silence of the Lambs.

Well, TMC is a cover of newman, but discovered around the same time because people didn't seem to know whether the Silence of the Lambs version was Newman or TMC (it's Newman).
