Siouxsie and the Banshees

What a great, great band. Somewhere between Joy Divison's dark nihilism and XTC's joyous melody lies Siouxsie Sue.

Essential Album: Twice Upon a Time: The Singles.

aren't they from before you were born?

A lot of my favorite music is from before I was born...Rachmaninov predates me by like a century but I still love it...

Normally posting a singles collection as the best album by a band would be cause for many insults, but in this case the Banshees were truly exceptional at singles. They had some good albums, but by far their most inventive efforts came from 7 and 12 inch releases.

But I think Globe's point is that you seem to be reliving our youth ("our" meaning middle-aged men). It is kinda cool and kinda weird all at once. On topic...I agree that they had some great singles. I saw them in Aberdeen around 1985. Siouxsie had a broken leg and kinda limped around the stage. It was a bit of a letdown. An XTC Appreciation Thread would be better use of the internet.

I love the early Banshees but the album that most resonates with my misspent youth is Tinderbox; a classic.

"Our" youth (assuming Magician is around my age) is filled with such talent laden wonders such as N'Sync.

For the record I'm 20.

First half of 2000s was all about the return and actualization of post-punk with Interpol, The Strokes and whatnot. Interpol is still an amazing listen.

Yes, there were landmark albums in "Turn on the Bright Lights" and "Is This It"- not to mention bands like the White Stripes. The whole post-punk revival thing is still going on now, but the band doing it are remarkably shitty (think Bloc Party and all of their copy cats).

Right now it's all about dubstep with indie receding a little and being either straight up brit rock or mellow and soft. Electro is slowly going down after the Justice/Ed Banger&Intestitubes high. I still listen to Sexy Sushi though because a simple electronic beat + girl shouting insults just works. Still she's a french Peaches so nothing new on the horizon. I like the Scandinavian doing Balearic beat; Air France and Aéroplane FTW!

Bloc party's first album was dope and they give a great live performance, no complaint on my part. Hype is warranted. Last album I tried listening to didn't grab me.
