Opinions please: one week of vacation - where do you go?

I was considering a poll but instead wanted plain feedback.

We have a week's vacation ahead - just the two of us - and want to go somewhere. We haz a (rather fuzzy) budget, so renting out the Taj Mahal: not happening. But we can be flexible with the $$$.

So, if you had a week in early August and didn't want to break the bank, where would you go?

Is Turks out of your budget range? If you were to go to the Caribbean, Turks is one of the few islands without a rainy season (most of august is considered the rainy season for the Caribbean).

If you wanted to stay in country I would suggest the Four Season in San Diego or the Ritz Carlton in Naples.

I love Southern Europe, but August is hot as balls and over-run with tourists. A lot of places all over the world are.

Why not wait until outside peak season (school holidays) if you can?

What sort of venues do you like? August is great in places like northern Ontario, but if you crave city stuff, it's not going to be a good fit.

Abruzzo and the Adriatic coast. Cheap airfares can be had at the moment and it's rather inexpensive compared to the rest of Italy.

Keep it somewhere that's a vacation spot. 1 week isn't enlough to explore any culture or new country, so just stick to white sand and palm trees and just relax.

August is a little difficult, hot, and can be crowded.

1. rent a house by a lake in the midwest - probrably the best option. not too hot, quiet, relaxing. get some nice wine, cook some nice food, hang out.

2. cartegena - not the best place to be in august, but it is my favorite place for a beach vacation

3. bolonga - if I wanted to go to a european city in august, I would go to a place that isn't very touristy, and is a university town. great good, very nice city to walk around.

i think a week is plenty of time to explore a new country, however I think the lake house idea is great.

live cheap. Have lots of sex. rent a boat. read a book. get wasted. relax. live the good life. Its hardly crowded and time is all you have. Actaully, man, that sounds really fucking nice now that I say it out loud....

what's your 20 ? driving would be time consuming, unless you hanker for a leisurely drive. if you got the dough, isle hopping in Greece would be absolutely

but, if you're close to a port of call [like Miami, Galveston, SanPedro, etc.], take a cruise__ don't need airfare+hotel and you can find bargain packages close to sailing.

Have you been to British Columbia before? If you haven't, consider the Okanagan Valley! I'd caution against going anywhere with a significant time change as you don't want to waste 2-3 days getting over jet lag.
