Loding Shoes - good quality?

Hey everybody,

I've been trying to augment my shoe wardrobe a little bit and I came across some shoes made by a company called Loding (here in Paris). The shoes are fairly reasonable (130 Euros for, I think, goodyear welted shoes) with some good styles. I don't really know what to expect though?

What do you all think? Is this a less-expensive way to build up a shoe collection (ie: comared to Lobb or Berluti) while still getting a decent shoe?

I have a pair of Loding shoes. I don't have Lobbs or Berlutis so I can't compare them in terms of quality. I doubt that they are comparable in quality anyway. The leather is kind of stiff and the stitching is not as fine as on some of my better shoes. With that said, my feelings are that the Loding shoes are a good value at the price and used to offer some interesting styles. They have less styles than they used to on the web site, and the ones they have don't interest me as much as the models they used to show. If there is a model you like, I think it's a good way to build up a shoe wardrobe at a reasonable cost.

Don't own any Loding, but I montmorency describes the general consensus - well-made and a fair price, if you like the looks.

Montmorency - have you seen Loake's? Would you put Lodings in the same camp, or would you rate them a bit higher?

I've only seen pictures of Loakes, but never in person. I can't compare a shoe that I actually have to one I've only seen on a computer screen.

Some folks from Europe in here who bought some Lodings recently?
I am thinking about ordering 2 pairs but i am not quite sure about the quality, would be great if some people could share their opinion.

last time i was at Paris, i did see alot of Loding shoes on sale. they seemed stylish and classic enough for office wear, but not sure of the comfort as i did not try any on. they seemed goodyear and decently made but not superlative or anything to scream about.

they were on sale for 60 euros at the time in 2006 which was about 75 dollars US.

Dependable especially on sales, don't own any myself.

Right now ~149 Euro on their webpage - 60 Euro Sale?? Gotta take a train to Paris this year...

I tried a couple of pairs on in Paris last year. I walked by the store and the shoes looked quite nice and seemed quite reasonable for the price. I decided to try a couple of pairs on and the first thing I noticed was that the leather wasn't particularly soft (they were quite stiff) and they were not comfortable. I also noticed that the finishing and workmanship was adequate, but nothing special. The shoes looked better in the window. I suppose that they would likely soften up and become more comfortable, but I don't think they're anything special. On sale, they may be worth it. Personally, I think the CJ Benchgrade is far superior (the handgrade is another level, obviously) and with the current exchange rate, are a better value.

Stiff leather, hmm. Well, haven´t found shoes in munich under 250 Euro which i liked (as a student you have to take a look at your expenses) and @pediwear and herrings there´s nothing for me at the moment in that category, so i think i´ll give it shot. Order one pair and see what i get.

The Loake 1880 line, available at Pediwear and Herring for under 150 pounds (which means less than 250 Euro) seems to be a good value and people say they're well made for the price. I just ordered a pair, so can't tell you firsthand yet, but they are quite reasononably priced.

I know, i have the Savoy from Loake 1880 and i do like the look of the leather and wear the shoes 2-3 times a month, but i, don´t know how to say, never really fell in love with them. Ordered as seconds, looked nice so i kept ´em, but they will be my only Loake till autumn. A friend of mine got the Burford this winter and i am considering to get them too for the next season. edit: Pics for those who are courious: Here

Have a single pair of Loding (Milan wholecut). I spent some hours "antiquing" them. Good value IMHO.

I don't own and I never tried one of those though I've read about it and from the pics it seems they are pretty enough and well built, I'm sure it's a fair price for what you're getting
