"In the Loop" - new film from Armando Iannucci

I saw this a few weeks ago. Definitely the best and funniest film I've seen this year. Absolutely uproariously hilarious. A spinoff of Armando Iannucci's British TV show "The Thick of It," for those who live across the pond, but they exist completely independently of each other, no need to see the show to appreciate the film. Here's the trailer: Opens the 24th of July in New York and LA, then staged release across the country. I interviewed Iannucci, who wrote and directed the film, on my show this week.He also helped create "I'm Alan Partridge" with Steve Coogan, which you likely know if you're a big comedy fan. The movie's basically a satirical look at the runup to the Iraq war through the eyes of a few sort of mid-level people both in the US and UK. No real good guys and bad guys, just bufoonery and self interest. Below a clip from the movie. The guy sitting at the desk is a cabinet minister for a made-up department, the profane Scottish guy is a sort of spinmeister/policy guy for the PM. And one more nice one:

I didn't think it lived up to the series, unfortunately. The Americans were the worst thing about it. It was like watching Dane Cook do Hamlet; just does not go. Still, some fantastic swearing from the Scotch. "Leaky mingebox" was a personal favourite.

This. It's a good film in it's own right but unfortunately if you've seen The Thick Of It then it is a bit of a let down. Steals a lot of storylines and jokes from The Thick Of It.

Anna Chlumsky looks pretty in this though.

Frankly, I'd seen both and the very slight overlap didn't bother me at all.
