Louis XIII Special Edition £1000 a shot

I was in the Dorchester in London last night and spotted a Louis XIII bottle (larger than normal) with what looked like a dull green liquid in. I asked the barman about it and he said it was a special edition 150 years old. £1000 a shot. I asked him if he'd ever sold a shot and apparently they've sold quite a lot (it was their second bottle!)

Has anyone ever heard of this Louis edition and more importantly has anyone ever tasted it?! I'm a fan of Brandy but never been fortunate to taste the normal Louis

Stephen.

I believe vox pours it on his cereal.

I think Pio has a bottle? Maybe not the Special Edition, but I'm almost positive he's posted pics of it on here.

I wonder how much it actually costs? I assume the hotel would charge around 5 x retail?

Not sure. Is it the Black Pearl? BP is 7500 Euro. That better be some damn good liquor. There are around 30 or 32 servings in a 1.75 L bottle, so that's 32,000 GBP just through servings. WOW.

That's it - "Black Pearl". Well found!

It is absolute insanity to pay that for a dram of liquor.

Definitely. I struggle to justify the insane price of Louis XIII standard - and I don't think I'd ever buy a shot of that. If it was the Brandy that was said to have pickled Nelson's body on the way back to England - I'd think about it.

Yup. I have no idea what the value of this bottle would have been when I opened it, as it was bottled in the 1960s. Apparently the empty bottle is worth several hundred dollars.

You would drink liquor off a man's body?

I'm trying hard to think how that would actually work.

I love the Kirkland AND Louis XIII in the same pic. The bottle is supposed to be waterford crystal or something.

+1. I've thought about getting a Costco membership just for the savings on an 18 y.o MacAllan.
