Lying on your Application? Acceptable?

Thread Starter
Im 18 years old, first of all.

I only have a real job in retail that I held for 4 months. My mom owns a Mrs. Field's cookies. I have never officially worked there, but if an employer were to check on if I had actually worked there or not, my mom would have my back.

Is it okay to put this on my application.

Whats your take on lying on the app?

Bad habit to get into.

If you need the Mrs. Fields work experience and you're Mom's cool about it, start working today.

I don't know what your application is for, but I'm not sure if lying about working at Mrs. Field's cookies will give you any sort of competitive edge. But in any case, don't get into that bad habit!

Lying on your application is never a good idea. If found out it could be an way to get instantly fired and when anyone calls on that job reference they'll get "He lied on his application, we fired him". No morals ether? The fact that your even thinking about makes you a loser.

Thinking about getting away with lying on a job application is a good indicator of managerial potential. To me its inexcusable though.

Unacceptable.

I'd say it depends on what job one is applying for

If you're applying for Cinnabon, sure.

I think the advantage he is looking for is work experience, not the actual place of work. When youre 18, nobody is really thinking you have any technical expertise. He probably just has never worked before and feels that he will not get a job without work experience. I did this for my first job; no harm, no foul.

Do it. Make sure you're possess the minimal skills you're supposed to possess. They're an employer not your future wife. You don't owe them the truth.

I think it's a bad habit to get into. It's not a big deal, but if you start with this, what's next? Also, a lot of these come back to bite people years later - a couple of college coaches and other folks have made news in the past few years for lying about things way back, that they frankly don't need anymore, but were just leftovers from old resumes. You don't need Mrs. Fields to get hired at 18.

You worked there, but never officially? What does that mean? You either worked there or you didn't. If you physically place your body at the cookie shop and engaged in labour, you worked there. If you did not, you did not. Don't bullshit on job applications.

I would remind you of what happened to Buddy, when he tried to impress Gordon with his call on Blue Star Airlines. Buddy got called on it by Gordon, and the rest is history.

I think it's great that you not only are you willing to lie about your employement, but your mom is willing to lie as well.

Integrity isn't so popular in your neck of the woods, huh?
