Did anybody see this? She's the designer of Imitation of Christ and a minor socialite in the art/fashion world. Apparently she doesn't have health insurance and people are starting to organize benefits to pay for her care. What I don't get is how does she not have insurance? She's got money, and I think she comes from money.

You'd be surprised as to how many people in the social scene have created the appearance of money.

If you have some talents or a set of looks or contacts, it isn't terribly difficult to get noticed in these types of circles. It doesn't mean you have significant financial resources. As for this woman in particular I really don't know what the deal is.

Bummer. She's quite yummy looking. In July of 2009, it was revealed that she was suffering from a benign brain tumor. Although it is not malignant, if it is not removed, it will continue to grow and will become lethal in another two years. She will have major neurosurgery within the next few weeks to remove the tumor. Since the delicate and invasive procedure is very expensive and she'll be out of work in rehab for about a year, an auction benefit is planned to defray the expenses.

Believe me, I live in LA so I'm pretty familiar with the phenomenon. In this particular case, I know a few people that are acquainted with her and though they aren't close they know she comes from money. I think she grew up in Greenwich or one of those fancy Connecticut towns. Either way, I'm sure brain surgery is expensive and even relatively comfortable folks would be burdened by the expense. I still don't get why she wouldn't have insurance, especially if she's a SAG member, but the story is pretty incomplete so who knows.

Ummm... in a bizarre coincidence, I just bookmarked the nude scenes from "Teenage Caveman" on filestube two days ago.

IoC had some monetary problems a few seasons ago. Lots of young people working in creative fields do not have health insurance.

This is what I find strange. I was under the impression that SAG was essentially a union which, like most unions, provide health insurance for its members. Otherwise, if she's wealthy, then why can't she spend, say $600 a month, for health insurance?

Because there are a lot of people in this country who don't care to have insurance or don't think anything will happen to them where they'll need it.
