Looks like it to me, too. Maybe even a young pure breed chow whose coat hasn't filled out yet, rather than a mix.

I have heard that chows tend to be complete bastards, but as a pit bull owner I give little weight to the general public perception of breeds. If it is true, in their defense, they are at least cuddly looking bastards.

^My thought as well--probably a Chow mix.

I had a Chow threaten to attack me on the top of Strawberry Peak in the San Gabriel Mountains. I wasn't too worried. I had a stout hiking staff and a 8-inch-blade Randall-made knife on me at the time.

My Tosa Zuma mixed it up with a big black Chow once. Zuma didn't even bother going into full fight drive. He just sort of disdainfully tossed the Chow around like a teddy bear.
