NASA taped over the moon landing

But in the scientific equivalent of recording an old episode of EastEnders over the prized video of your daughter's wedding day, Nasa probably taped over its only high-resolution images of the first moon walk with electronic data from a satellite or a later manned space mission, officials said today.

This is funny, but also saddening.

As far as the moon landing in concerned, just more fodder for the conspiracy theorist.

You people think we actually landed on the moon?! HAHA! You probably think Hitler killed himself and JFK was assassinated.

I've read somewhere that the tapes were destroyed to deny the discovery of their fabrication with the new video and computerised research methods of today.

Makes sense to me.

This makes absolutely no sense. Video wasn't out in 1969, so how did they "tape over" reel footage?

The moon landing was probably just a tape of people hoping around Area 51 in slow motion or something.

Magnetic tape as a storage medium was around long before 1969. As early as 1952, Ampex developed prototype video tape recorders that used a spinning head and relatively slow-moving tape. In early 1956, Ampex demonstrated the VR-1000, which was the first of Ampex's line of 2 inch Quadruplex videotape recorders. The first magnetically-recorded time-delayed network television program using the new Ampex Quadruplex recording system was CBS's Douglas Edwards and the News on November 30, 1956.
