A couple days ago, I accidentally dropped a q-tip into the toilet. I grabbed one for my ear and a second one fell from the cabinet into the toilet. This was the kind of q-tip with a plastic rod, not a paper one.

At the time, I decided that a q-tip couldn't do much damage and I decided to just flush it away so I wouldn't have to reach into the toilet to fish it out. I flushed a few times and all was good.

A few hours later, I flushed some toilet paper down and now my toilet is clogged.

It's been sitting for around a day and I just tried plunging it. I was able to remove the clog this evening but when I tried to flush more paper down the toilet it became clogged again.

Thoughts?

PS: I put this thread in fine living because this is really, really, really inhibiting me from living finely.

Liquid Plumr or Draino should do the trick. It works wonders. If that fails to break down whatever is stuck there you can use a pipe snake to dislodge the obstruction.

You can't use liquid plumber or drano in a toilet...could cause problems, especially in older houses.

I would suggest you keep flushing and plunging until that q-tip becomes dislodged and works throught the system. You could try to "snake" it, but I doubt that would be effective.

Try flushing one sheet of paper towel...it is stronger that tp and may get caught on the q-tip and give it some substance so when you plunge, it will disoldge. Don't flush too much paper towel or you'll have a new problem.

good luck.

plunger or snake were the only two things that came to mind.

You should not q-tip your ears. That is very bad for your ears.

It does feel good! What are you supposed to do then?

Don't use Draino. Try plunging and flushing 3-5 extra times. If that doesn't work, get a toilet auger (snake) for $6 and use it a few times.

I also wouldn't put a paper towel into the system. Paper towels don't dissolve the way TP does.

I tried plunging and snaking the thing and it didn't work. I decided to take a vacation--I'm going to call a plumber when I get back to town.

Only works for those that have dry ear wax (mostly asians). Most caucasians have wet ear wax.
