Question for the Star Wars fans....I've seen just under four of the films. I know there is lots of history with all the characters, races, etc. but from what I remember in the movies, there was hardly any discussion of all that shit, yet everyone talks about how for thousands of years the XXXXXs were in charge of YYYYYland while fighting ZZZZZs.

Where does that back story come from? Did I really forget a lot of the movies?

Thanks.

No, sometime between the original 3 being released and "now" they developed a whole back story to the SW universe. A ton of comics and novels expanded it. I read a "history of the Sith" article once and it more or less said that the "Star Wars Universe" as we know it started approx 25,000 years before the first movie.

Before that, the idea was that for hundreds of thousands of years there were many planets and various races at different stages of evolution. They all were too primitive at the time for space travel but they all had "the force" doing it's fancy magic stuff on their respective planets - but at the time they didn't know what it was so they all started various religions to explain it.

Those religions spawned the first "good vs evil" battles, eventually creating a planet of "Sith" evil dudes who then blew themselves up or something, leaving only 1 Sith and an apprentice.... who 25,000 years later is Darth Vadar and Palpatine.

Christ, I feel dirty for even knowing all of that.

here's a reference if you're feeling really geeky

I found this photo today, thought it would be appropriate. The two tall guys are C2PO and Chewy. I think we all know who the dwarf played.

That doesn't look like C3PO (anthony daniels)... on second thought...maybe it does.

Aren't you a little short for a storm trooper?

It's sucked hours out of my life, but in return, I now know almost everything Star Wars. Fascinating stuff, would love to somehow see a third trilogy done that covers the The Yuuzhan Vong War.

Yes, wookieepedia is awesum, and the EU (expanded universe) is very deep. I am a star wars fan but I have never thought of going to a con or ever fucking dressing as a character. Lel, if they could make movies covering the Yuuzhan Vong war that would be hella sweet. The problem is that they would be jumping over a lot of material in the new republic era. Only serious fans would understand any of it.
