Check all Hollywood movies from the 1930s and 40s.

More modern: in Body of Lies, Mark Strong wears some fabulous Huntsman suits.

Not to forget: Le conseguenze dell'amore

Wardrobe of the main character consists of double breasted Kiton suits, Matuozzo shirts and Ballantyne turtlenecks. Very elegant.

It has the added bonus of being an excellent movie.

Some modern movies with decent clothes:

Miller's Crossing
-each character has a distinctive style. Check out Leo's smoking jacket when he's at home. Beautiful

Italian Job (the original with Michael Caine)
-the Italiam mobsters all had classic sharkskin suits. Michael Caine's suede safari-jacket when he's driving his Aston Martin is also noteworthy.

Older Movies:

Singing in the Rain
-check out how high Gene Kelly wears his pants. Plus he tucked in his sweaters. It elongates his leg line and makes a short man look taller. He also wears floods with cuffs and makes it look good. Grey flannels and a yellow sweater - if you can pull that off then you know what you're doing. (An American in Paris is also good)
-Syd Charise is lovely too!

Little Caesar
-The original mobster movie with Edward G. Robinson. Everything else is a pale imitation.
-All of the men back then were short but they wore DB suits and overcoats and didn't look square or heavy.

The Roaring Twenties and Angels with Dirty Faces
-James Cagney was a short man, yet he wears DB suits and makes it look elegant. Notice how high the armholes are whenever he punches someone.

Finally, anything with Fred Astaire.

also the reason why Mark Strong looks so snazzy in suits is because he is naturally very tall and slim.
remember those were abandoned bespoke suits he wore in the movie, they werent customized to his body.

The Italian Job: Original version suits by Douglas Hayward.
Thomas Crown Affair either version.
Casino.
Goodfellas.
Any God Father film.
North by North West.
Quadrophenia.
The night porter.
Day of the jackal.
Pink Panther (any version).
The Assasination Burea.

These just spring to mind.

Casino. I always wanted to dress as Deniro there with his silk suits. I did Until I realiced it was too snob.

Godfellas. The scene where the player opens his wardbrobe and a rainbow of suits.

Jeremy Irons' suits in Damage (1992) are the last word in British tailoring. One look at these suits will end any and all discussion of which Savile Row tailor you should go to. Go to whoever made these suits, although I couldn't figure out who it was from the credits. Maybe someone knows?

An earlier poster mentioned Clive Owen's suits in Duplicity. I liked those too. I think they have a slightly lower button stance than is usual and longer lapels. The cut along the body is perfect - not too tight and not too loose. maybe it's Clive's build, but the suits are ideal. Also Jean-Louis Triginant in The Conformist and I liked the suits in Chaplin, especially after Charlie hits it big in Hollywood. Very current look: slim cut, flat front pants, etc.

+1 for American Psycho. Patrick Bateman "has a penchant for Valentino suits and Oliver Peoples glasses."

A Perfect Murder - Douglas' style was a bit too 90s trendy for me, but great suits Smokin' Aces - Horrible movie but Andy Garcia had some great suits Clear and Present Danger - Columbian gangsters really know how to dress Latest Batman movies - When Bale dons a suit, they are quite impressive The Bank Job - All the Brits, even the gov't workers, have great suits Inside Man - The old banker's DB suits are splendid. Even if he is a Nazi POS Also, agree 100% on Body of Lies. Strong looks like the window display at the Zegna or Brioni store in BH (even though those aren't the suits).
