Purchase a used Quattroporte - Page 2

all your questions are answered here

Briefly the early QPs had the duoselect tranny which is a paddle operated manual tranny. Clutch were is an issue. New plates in 20-25k. Hydraulic pump failures can also happen. However, the cognoscenti feel that the car is more sporty and the engine is more in its own than with the auto. Then again the ZF auto arguably is the best unit on the market and the reviews ahve been good. Keep in mind that the reviews that you read in the magazines are based on a journo spending an afternoon with a car. ON the forum mentioned above you get reviews of people that bought one and have lived wiht one for months if not years already.

Otherwise the QP seems a bullet proof car and on the forum there are plenty of testimonies of folks that came from MB or BMW that complain about how often theircars were in the shop as opposed to the QP.

It is a high end high performance car so tires and high gas bills are going to be an issue. Poor monty must be pulling his hair out each time he pulls over at a gas station.

It is however f*****g gorgeous.

And buying any high end car that is 2-3 years old is a terrific option. Jags, Mercs and BMWs depreciate so much it is not even funny. And a 40k car that was 80k 2 years ago is going to be much better than a car that is priced new at 40k.

i should know. my 12 year old jag xjr cost me 7.5k. It is beautiful and a joy to own.

I really don't want to be negative here, but am I the only one who thinks the QP garish? They're just a very "look at me" car.

I'd much rather get a 2007 or so S8. Just my $0.02

Yes, you are. It's incredibly sexy.

Picking an S8 over a Qp is kind of like picking the hot school teacher over the hot super model. Though not bad options but very telling.

Thanks for the advice and comments from everyone. After planning to buy a used QP at the beginning of my search to avoid the depreciation hit, I ended up purchasing a new '09 QP-S in dark blue with beige interior. The dealership really gave me a pretty good deal (I think!) after some negotiation with about 20% off sticker and free scheduled maintenance for 4 years.
I drove it off the lot this afternoon and its paint is getting a polymer coat placed at a local detailer.

Basically, I'm getting a slightly larger engine (4.7L vs 4.2L), the ZF transmission, the new nav/entertainment/bluetooth/Ipod setup and no miles on the car in exchange for about 6 Kiton suits (at retail)! Tough choice...

Terrific! I saw the car on their lot while Sunday browsing. It's a very nice car, and sounds like a nice deal. Enjoy! Be sure to post pics.

I think you did right with the navy over the maroon.

Lunch at RL next time you are in town.

So true. People seem to assume everybody with money acts like the proverbial nouveau Russian businessmen who revel in the wasting of money. Most people who have money worry incessantly about not having it, so they sweat the small things like this.

Yes, very true, especially those who have earned their wealth themselves.
