Which is exactly what you should try to avoid if possible. Try to look for a sulfate free shampoo and don`t wash too often.

Desert Essence Desert Tea Tree Shampoo and Conditioner are by and away the best shampoo and conditioner I have ever used. I've used lots of different Aveda products, Nexxus, Grooming Lounge and many of the cheaper brands. It has improved my scalp condition immensely and has virtually eliminated all of my dandruff which I have had my entire life (no dandruff shampoo helped).

They are also uber-cheap. You can get the shampoo and conditioner shipped for around $11.

The "cheap shit" is what has the most laurel sulfate because it's inexpensive. There are plenty of shampoos w/o it. Plus, you probably want to stop using toothpaste, mouthrinses, etc. as they have it as well. Just like cheap hair products use a plastic or resin to hold hair in place as opposed to more expensive products using a type of sugar to hold hair in place. Go use some Aqua Net for a week and look at the little white pieces in your hair. That buildup is plastic.

Good points, Tck13. Anything you've used and would recommend?

Same here but only once a week. After an adjustment period of a couple of weeks my hair has never felt and looked better.

The pH of most regular soap isn't the same as shampoos and will damage your hair by opening up the cuticles and releasing the moisture ini your hair.

I hate recommending any hair products as everyone has different tastes. I will say to spend a little more (but not a ridiculous amount) and buy something you like and smells good to you. Some things to look for: sulfate free, more natural products, no animal testing, etc.

Typically, a better shampoo is more concentrated than the cheap stuff and will last longer. So a slightly higher price tag may be worth it in the long run.

I think Garnier Fructis (green bottle) is the best grocery store shampoo. Next step would be Paul Mitchell shampoo one or awapuhi + the conditioner (leave in conditioner). I've tried everything, but always go back to Paul Mitchell.

Anthony Logistics makes a nice shampoo and conditioner. The brand is fairly common, can be found online as well in almost any department store. Mid-priced, but products last a good while and it is a groming line made just for men... can't go wrong with that!
