coming out of food poisoning... when can I eat?

I am absolutely starving.
I haven't vomited for about 12 hours. Before that, my body was getting rid of everything including water/gatorade for a while (not sure exactly, my sense of time is a bit off)
I've been able to drink plenty of fluids and now I'm craving a burger. Is that a bad idea? Should I stick to soup for now?

I would stick to the safe typically recommended foods first - white rice, toast, chicken breast, etc.

Having lots and lots of personal experience with food poisoning from various organisms, I would suggest waiting a while longer. You'll live without food for several days, so don't worry. I've had several multi-day episodes of food poisoning and I'm still alive.

Keep consuming fluids, even if lose them shortly thereafter to vomiting and/or diarrhea.

Once you are feeling pretty stable, try out a cracker or slice of bread and wait an hour. See how that does. Stick to bland, easy to digest foods. A burger is not a good idea, in my experience.

Keep in mind that if you had to take some potent antibiotics, you may have a little trouble digesting things until the flora get re-established in your gut...

Ummm...it's food poisoning, not freaking arsenic. Last time I had it I think I ate gummy bears and a Bojangles chicken biscuit about 24 hours after. I'm that cool.

BRAT diet

Bananas
Rice
Applesauce
Toast

Eat the above then make sure it stays down. Preferably with a solid bowel movement. You will feel a raging hunger for something and make sure to indulge it.

I add yogurt to this ASAP, to begin replenishing bacteria in my digestive tract.

I have been food poisoned so damned many times I know your pain. Have someone make you some nice chicken or pork broth, you can spice it a tiny bit, get some veggies soaked in there that way you have something very bland and liquid/semi-solid. That and whatever liquid strikes my fancy till I feel better. Feel better!

So it's a BARTY Diet?
That sounds like something you would tell a child to trick them into eating healthy.

I had food poisoning yesterday too, (Worst part, I got in scolded for it, as it was from my parent's restaurant, and when I told them, they flipped out at me... So they were standing over me, yelling at me as I'm puking.)

I'm just eating normally now. But I've noticed that my appetite is a little weak. Last night I had chicken soup, today I ate cereal and Chipotle and I'm dandy.

I got sick from my messed up beef last year that had me up all night on the toilet. I just ate hot soup and crackers the next few days afterwards.

I feel your pain. I would eat yogurt and soup. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. I have a bottle of pedilyte (sp?) at home just in case. Supposedly, when you have food poisoning its bad to have alot of sugar like gatorade.
