Suggestions Requested...

Hi,

So I feel as though I need new shampoo and conditioner and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for good ones. I have copper color hair, usually fairly short, but full and thick, and I would like to get it a bit "softer" if that's possible with some good conditioners.

Also, is there a moisturizing face wash/scrub/lotion that anyone would highly recommend?

Thanks,
Ben

For shampoo/conditioner, I just use whatever I can get from Target - Pantene has always worked for me, and Head and Shoulders if I think I need it. I use the two-in-one for both. I cut my hair too often to spend a bunch of money on good shampoo and conditioner. The only thing I spend money on for my hair is good wax. That said, I used the Bumble and bumble seaweed shampoo and conditioner for a while when I was given a sample, and I really liked it. If I ever decide to upgrade my shampoo, that's probably what I'd try first.

I use Clinique face scrub and moisturizer. I really like both. They work well, the price isn't entirely unreasonable, and they tend to last quite a while. I use the moisturizer every day and the scrub 1-2 times a week.

Stop washing your hair. Seriously. Maybe once or twice a week depending on how much you sweat.

Go to Target. You'll find Every Man Jack. The mint shampoo smells great, is refreshing and it leaves my hair softer than it was when I was using a dedicated conditioner. A few of my friends now use it because they liked mine so much, so it's not an isolated incidence. Even if it doesn't work, it's cheap enough that it won't hurt your wallet like something from Zirh or Kiel's. For a moisturizer, I'd recommend the white Olay bottle with SPF15. I got the Clinique SPF21 moisturizer and it doesn't do the job quite as well. What are you looking for in a face scrub? If it's just to wash your face, Cetaphil is about as good as it gets. Big name brands won't do the job any better.

For shampoo and body wash, Every Man Jack from target is great. Also try shampooing 2-3 times a week at most, has worked great for me.

+1

Most people wash their hair too often and cause damage due to harsh chemicals contained in shampoos. Twice a week is all you need under normal conditions.

Every Man Jack is good. BTW, It's a product, not a command. The mint scent is really nice.

I've been told that my hair starts to smell bad after not washing it for three days, so I am wary of the guys who say to wash only twice a week. I now wash every other day.

+1 on washing your hair less.

I have relatively long hair (currently just off my shoulders) and if I don't wash it daily it'll be greasy by about midday on the second day. That said, when it's just been cut I try to wash it every other day. If you have short hair, I'm in agreement with everyone else, wash it as little as possible.

As for shampoos containing damaging chemicals, that's less of an issue with modern shampoos and one of the purposes of conditioner is to give nutrients back to the hair. But you can't yet buy a chemical that is as good for the hair as the chemicals your own hair produces. Conditioner tries to put back what the shampoo takes away. So try not to take it away in the first place.

That in mind, I often use Tresemme hair produces but try to change as often as possible. It's not beneficial to stay with one kind.

The whole not washing every day doesn't work for me. I have some friends that have great looking hair, and they all say they just use hot water on it in the shower. No shampoo. I look like a hobo by the end of day 2, and it got worse from there.

I used to spend decent money on shampoo and conditioner, but I realized the different brands weren't really doing anything noticeably different for me, so now I just grab whatever is on sale when I go shopping.

Look at the shampoo ingredients, the really are pretty much the same, ammonium lauryl sulfate. Buy what you like, what smells good etc. For most of our hair, the $20 bottle of shampoo vs the $2 store brand is really not that big of a difference.

i have to disagree here.. After using different types of cheap shampoos and conditioners I always found my hair to be really dry. Even when i just washed it 2 times a week.. My hairdresser recommended me american crew products and they work a lot better for me. According to her, the cheaper shampoos contain more 'soap', which dries out your hair.
