bubble tea

I had bubble tea in flushing a couple of years ago and was underwhelmed. A chinese restaurant near work started selling it, I gave it another try, and now I'm totally hooked on the black tea version. anyone else like this stuff? any sense of the caloric intake?

I think the tapioca teas are generally north of 250 calories. Tapioca balls are basically a tapioca starch & brown sugar mixture soaked in syrup; the carb hit of each drink is immense. And yes, I like this stuff.

It's pretty good, depending on where you get it, and what mix they use (powder, syrup, fruit juice, etc.)

No clue what the caloric intake is, but it's pretty filling.

I tried one maybe a year or two ago on the recommendation of a friend. I had forgotten (probably a defense mechanism) how horrible it was until I saw this thread.

I enjoy me some boba.

Bubble tea can go wrong in so many ways starting with super sweet, artificial syrupy drinks and then over or undercooked bubbles. When the tapioca pearls are cooked just right and the tea base is good, i love it even if it's a carb bomb.

Best place in NYC is Saint's Alp Teahouse in the East Village. Second place goes to the Green Tea House in Chinatown (lots of interesting tea options)
