IE8 drove me right into the arms of Firefox which is now my "go to."

My problem with IE8 was I would open a new tab, immediately go to google to type in a search string, would get 3 characters typed in and the remaining characters would be typed into the URL space. My fingers and mind simply were 2 fast for Microsoft.

Firefox is awesome!!

Haven't tried anything else long enough to have an opinion.

Opera here.
Also have Firefox, Safari and IE installed - but Opera is my go-to.

Opera owns on the Windows Mobile platform! It's so much faster than IE mobile, it's not even comparable. I'm still a Firefox guy on the desktop/laptop.

Loving Opera but I have a few major gripes that will probably have me going back to Firefox when 3.5 is introduced in Ubuntu 9.10 at the end of October.

The biggest gripe being they are such standard whores, way too many pages don't load correctly. Also the implementation of tabbed browsing irritates me, even with all the new features, like being able to resize them, etc.

If FF 3.5 is relatively close to Opera in speed, I'll use that. If not, I'll use both.

But Firefox 3.0 for Linux sucks asshole, period.

I like IE8, the newest FF has been freezing up on me terribly.

As much as I love the open source movement, it doesn't seem to protect software from bloat.

IMO FF and Evolution Mail/PIM client need to be scrapped and completely rewritten.

I'd spend more time on Safari but the lack of decent add-ons really kills it for me. Firefox is just way more advanced.

Yeah but all the legacy Netscape 3.x code left in there from the Jurassic Era kinda mucks it all up. I love FF too, but it's getting bloated and needs to be rewritten. JMHO.

You're not wrong. Every now and then I have to switch to Safari to get certain websites working. Hell, SF is often fucked using FF. Still, living w/out Adblock and noscript and some of the other addons would suck.

Yeah. I have the bigger issue with Evolution though. Since I moved to Linux I've been searching for an Outlook replacement, and Evolution comes closest to fitting the bill, but that legacy code in there from the 70s ensures that it won't be a worthy contender for a long time to come.

IMO the guys at Ubuntu should just take it upon themselves to rewrite Evolution, or just scrap it and go with Thunderbird as the embedded e-mail client.
